JAQUES PARACHUTE TOP, MID 19TH CENTURY
Very rare, mid 19th century Jaques' Pararchute Top in original mahogany slide-top box and with original folding rule sheet which includes illustrations of other Jaques games. "Two Prize Medals awarded 1862", proudly printed on the distinctive, gree lid label announces an award from one of the international toy fairs of the time. This beautiful and intriguing top is not just fascinating, but a work of art in b oth materials and design. The top is turned from solid English boxwood and has a central metal spindle around which is wound a cord. When this is flly wound the top is held in one hand whilst the cord is pulled vigorously, thus releasing the botom boxwood top and then all the other coloured tops within which fall, spinning on to the table. Please note that this example is missing one coloured inner top and that the brown top has a split (however, it still spins). Despite the loss of one inner top it is a rare object in good condition for age.
