MORE CRIBBAGE BOARDS 1880 - 1915
Another selection of Cribbage boards and boxes
In the foreground a VICTORIAN FAUX MARBLE board Actually slate and it weighs a lot! Most people have been fooled it's so good.
Underneath that a fine example of a ROSEWOOD VENEERED WITH BONE INLAID board on a mahogany base. The underside having a swing lid compartment for four large, unusual bone pegs.
Left of Centre is a MAHOGANY INLAID HINGED BOX with swing catch and inside two compartments for cards with central portion for pegs.
Centre back is an excellent example of a LEE ENFIELD STOCK which has been converted by the engineering department of a military regiment into a cribbage board. The bullet compartment unscrews to hold the brass pegs. This one has had the cap badge of the Israeli army applied to it. Circa 1915.
Back right is THE HEDGEHOG. Yup, so called because all the brass pins are pulled up during scoring, thus resembling the good old hedgehog. French, circa 1880 SOLD
