1920s DROP FRONTED MAH-JONG 5-DRAWER BOX WITH GOLD/RED/GREEN CHINESE MOTIFS
This smart five-drawer 1920s Mah-jong box measures 19 x 17.5 x 20 cms deep. It has a drop front which falls when the bone button on the top is pressed. The front and two sides have chinese symbols which are cut into the wood and painted in three different colours of gold, red and green.
Because of the shape of this kind of box the normal layout 9 x 4 rows of tiles to each drawer is unobtainable and in this case is 7 x 5. Hence the remaining tile from each suit is housed in the top drawer where the tally sticks and lovely original bone winds indicator is housed.
This set comprises 144 bone and bamboo tiles measuring 30 x 22 x 101mm. The proportion of bone to bamboo being approximately 40/60. N.B.: The price takes into consideration that there are NO spare tiles in this set which would have originally totalled 148. However there is a good compliment of bone tally sticks which are not visible in top drawer in the picture of the drawers.
