8 HORSE ASCOT HORSE RACING GAME BY JAQUES OF LONDON C 1880
This is a superb example of the Ascot Horse Racing Game made by the famous English games makers Jaques of London. Ingenuity and quality were their trade marks, both of which are exemplified in this little gem of a game which is just as much fun today.
In a beautiful golden mahogany box with a colourful label showing the horses and jockeys, It has a bone winding handle to the side which drives a spindle in the bottom of the box.
This is the 8-horse version so there are 8 bone gromits to the front of the box where the long strings, wound roundthe spindle come out and are attatched to the painted horses and jockeys.
When all the horses are extended together on their long strings on a wooden floor and the bets are placed, the handle is turned and the horses jockey for position and the first one/s nose to touch the box is the winner. A different horse winds every time!
Good fun at Christmas, along with Escalado, a later, similar type table game.
