POOH BEAR ACROBAT TORTION TOY - CIRCA 1950s
This is a great example of a very old idea. A tortion toy which, just by the simple method of construction with wood and string allows the jointed figure hanging from the bar, to move like an acrobat around the bar.
This one was made around 1950s and depicts Pooh Bear from the A A Milne stories. When the bottom part of the wooden structure is squeezed the top stretches out making the string tighten and Pooh to move. He can be made to do some complicated moves with one leg straddling the bar etc.
Pooh is nicely figured and has his ears, eyes, nose and mouth outlined in black, red and white. Great fun - even adults find this endlessly absorbing. Measures 38cms tall by 13cms wide at base.
