VICTORIAN SHIPPING ALPHABET CARD GAME C. 1860 by Biggs & Sons
A most unusual set of early Victorian Shipping Card Alphabet Cards, contained in their original green and cold patterned, card case. The black and white pen and ink drawings of of excellent quality and detail. An excellent reference of historic vessels.
The set comprises 36 cards: 26 double-sided cards which have one side lettered A through to Z with an image of a ship on the other side whose name begins with that letter. e.g. A - Aberdeen Clipper. The latter Z does not have a ship to the other side. It has (pictured) the maker's and distributors details, "Biggs & Sons - Price One Shilling etc."
The other 10 cards have numbers 0 - 9 on one side with letters
0/O, 1/A, 2/E, 3/0, 4/I, 5/A, 6/U, 7/I, 8/E. 9/U
All fit snugly in the box so I don't think anything is missing.
