EIGHT 1920s BONE AND BAMBOO MAH-JONG FLOWER TILES
These eight mah-jong flower tiles have sadly been separated from their original set.
They are of very good quality bone and bamboo and measure 3.2 x 2.2 x 1.2 cms. Nice and chunky.
These would have beeb made in China for the British export market in the 1920s and would have been contained with the rest of the tiles in a five-drawer carrying box.
The design and execution is of a high quality and shows people at work and leisure in their traditional costumes.
These tiles are nowadays used for jewellery - bracelets, pendents and even earrings. However, they just beautiful, tactile objects in their own right.
