ELECTRICAL MAH JONG -MADE FOR WESTERN ELECTRIC COMPANY LTD 1924
This unusual card version of the game of Mah-Jong was produced by Thomas Del La Rue of London in 1924. It was commissioned by the Western ElectricCompany Limited whose head office was in Aldwych, London, as a souvenir of the 1924 British Empire Exhibition at which they had a stand
The cards, which measure 8 x 5cms are beautifully illustrated with suits of radios, cables and phones (36 tiles each). Then there are Honours of red, green and white dragons (four of each); Winds N, S, E, W (four of each) and the Periods (8). 144 cards in total.
The backs the cards are beautifully decorated with a lion and telephone set against a rich dark gold ground with the Company's Logo and 1924 British Empire Exhibition Souvenir dedication. Very Art Deco in it's style.
