WEIGHTS & MEASURES ROUND GAME BY J JAQUES & SON 1900 - VINTAGE CARD GAME
This antique card game published by J. Jaques and Son Ltd was produced in 1900.
The rules state, "It is hoped that this little game ma prove serviceable to fellow schoolmasters and others, who are daily struggling with the wandering thoughts of youthful minds; and while adding to the delight of the pupil, may lessen the teacher's WEIGHT of anxiety and crown the efforts of both with a full MEASURE of success " Charles F. Westoby.
Like the majority of games produced by Jaques over the centuries, this is a delightful education game with delightful illustrations covering the different means of measuring and weighing liquids, solids, spaces, money etc., The photographs are explicit.
The object of the game is for each player to try to gain as many tricks (which consist of a key-card and all its corresponding cards) as possible and placing them face down on the table as each one is achieved. The player scoring the greatest number of tricks is the winner. Not unlike Counties of England where each county has key towns and each has to be collected for a trick.
Telescopic double-box in very good condition for age and the cards are very good with no creases. There is a photography of the original rule sheet.
We've never had this game before.
